Embracing My Feminine Self: A Journey of Connection and Identity

In my blog post, I share my experiences of embracing my feminine identity by spending time with female friends and dressing in women's attire. These moments, whether serving prasadam at the Shirdi Sai Baba temple or enjoying a day out with my sister, have been both fun and deeply fulfilling. From receiving a heartfelt blessing from an elderly woman at the temple to playfully engaging with a roadside astrologer, these experiences have allowed me to connect with my true self and feel a sense of belonging in the company of women.

There’s something deeply profound about not just dressing as a woman, but fully immersing oneself in the world of women. For me, it's about more than just clothes; it’s about the joy of blending into a group of women, feeling the shared camaraderie, and experiencing the world from a perspective that has always resonated with me. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of fulfilling a dream I often had—of stepping out with female friends, feeling the warmth of belonging and the thrill of shared adventures.

A Memorable Visit to Shirdi Sai Baba Temple

One of my most cherished experiences happened at the Shirdi Sai Baba temple. It was a day of spiritual connection, not just with the divine but with myself. Dressed casually in jeans and a top, I joined my friend in the temple's service. As we served prasadam to the devotees, it felt like more than a mere act of service; it was a soul-satisfying moment where I felt completely at peace with who I was.

An elderly lady approached me, her eyes full of kindness. Without hesitation, she placed a dot of vermilion (kumkum) on my forehead and blessed me. In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of love and acceptance, as though I were with my grandmother, receiving her warm blessings. It was a beautiful reminder that the connections we seek are often found in the simplest of moments.

A Day of Fun and Fortune-Telling

Another unforgettable experience was the day I rode a scooty to a temple with my sister, dressed in a saree. The journey was dotted with laughter and spontaneous stops for snacks and juice, a testament to the simple joys that often come from shared experiences. But the real fun began when we encountered a roadside Parrot Astrology (Chilaka Josyam) stand.

Curious about what the future held for me, I decided to give it a try. The parrot, trained to pick cards, selected one, and the astrologer began predicting my future. According to him, my married life was on the rocks; my husband, he claimed, was having an affair. I could hardly keep a straight face, especially as my sister started teasing the astrologer, asking for remedies to make my “husband” fall back in love with me. He was more than happy to oblige, even offering to perform a special pooja for a thousand rupees to fix everything.

What I’ve learned through these experiences is that life is full of moments that allow us to explore and express our true selves. Whether it’s through the simple act of dressing, engaging in playful adventures, or participating in spiritual rituals, these moments are precious.

The entire interaction was hilarious, a blend of humor and disbelief. My sister recorded the whole thing on her phone, and one day, I might just share that video. It was a moment that encapsulated the joy of being in the company of someone who not only accepts you for who you are but also shares in the humor and absurdity of life’s little quirks.

The Deeper Meaning Behind the Experiences

These experiences, while seemingly light-hearted and fun, hold a much deeper significance for me. They are about more than just wearing women’s clothing; they are about finding and embracing a part of myself that has always been there. It’s about the connections made with others—be it the kind woman at the temple or the playful banter with my sister—that affirm my identity and bring me closer to the woman I feel I am inside.

What I’ve learned through these experiences is that life is full of moments that allow us to explore and express our true selves. Whether it’s through the simple act of dressing, engaging in playful adventures, or participating in spiritual rituals, these moments are precious. They remind us that identity is not just about how we look on the outside, but how we feel and connect with the world around us.

Embracing Identity and Community

In a world that often tries to define us by strict norms, it’s liberating to step outside of those boundaries and embrace who we are, in all our complexities. For me, being part of a community of women, even if just for a day, has been a way of affirming my identity. It’s a reminder that identity is fluid, multifaceted, and deeply personal.

As I continue on this journey of self-discovery, I cherish these moments of connection and the joy of being seen for who I truly am. Whether it’s through a simple blessing at a temple or a playful encounter with an astrologer, each experience adds a new layer to my understanding of myself and my place in the world.

And who knows? Maybe one day, I’ll share that video of my sister and me at the astrologer’s stand—a little glimpse into a day of fun, laughter, and the joy of being unapologetically oneself.

P.S: These experiences happened a couple of years ago but still, whenever I think about these experiences it makes me very happy to my core.
